چکیده

We explore the possibility that polaronic distortions in the paramagnetic phase of La 0.67 Ca 0.33 MnO 3 manganites persist in the ferromagnetic phase by considering the observed electrical resistivity to arise from the coexistence of field-and temperature-dependent polaronic and band-electron fractions conducting in parallel. To test the validity of this model, we apply it to the thermoelectric coefficient using the well-known Nordheim-Gorter rule for parallel conducting channels. We propose a plausible mean-field model that reproduces the essential features of a microscopic model and provides a comparison with the experimental mixing fraction, as well as the magnetization and magnetic susceptibility.

We explore the possibility that polaronic distortions in the paramagnetic phase of La 0.67 Ca 0.33 MnO 3 manganites persist in the ferromagnetic phase by considering the observed electrical resistivity to arise from coexisting field-and temperature-dependent polaronic and band-electron fractions. We use an effective medium approach to compute the total resistivity of the two-component system, a...

Ferromagnetism and Colossal Magnetoresistance from the Coexistence of Comparable Charge and Spin Density Orders

We report a complete multicomponent mean-field-theory for the coexistence and competition of charge ordering (CO), antiferromagnetic (AFM) and ferromagnetic (FM) spin ordering in the presence of a uniform magnetic field. Doping the AFM or CO state always generates a ferromagnetic component. Itinerant FM, AFM and CO, necessarily coexist and compete in a particle-hole asymmetric system. Melting o...

Using density matrix renormalization group techniques, we have studied the ground state of the 4-leg t-J ladder doped near half-filling. Depending upon J/t and the hole doping x, three types of ground state phases are found: (1) a phase containing d x 2 −y 2 pairs; (2) a striped CDW domain-wall phase, and (3) a phase separated regime. A CDW domain-wall consists of fluctuating hole pairs and thi...

Zero Temperature Insulator - Metal Transition in Doped Manganites

– We study the transition at T = 0 from a ferromagnetic insulating to a ferromagnetic metallic phase in manganites as a function of hole doping using an effective low-energy model Hamiltonian proposed by us recently. The model incorporates the quantum nature of the dynamic Jahn-Teller(JT) phonons strongly coupled to orbitally degenerate electrons as well as strong Coulomb correlation effects an...

D ec 1 99 6 The Spin Gap in the Context of the Boson - Fermion Model for High T c Superconductivity

The issue of the spin gap in the magnetic susceptibility χ ′′ (q, ω) in high T c superconductors is discussed within a scenario of a mixture of localized tightly bound electron pairs in singlet states (bi-polarons) and itinerant electrons. Due to a local exchange between the two species of charge carriers, antiferromagnetic correlations are induced amongst the itinerant electrons in the vicinit...
